The Stirling engine is very different from the internal combustion engine of our cars. It is more efficient than a diesel or gasoline motor. But Stirling engines are used only in specific cases, in submarines or auxiliary power generators for yachts, where quiet operation is important. Although the Stirling engine has not been a commercial success, some researchers who have great talent are investing time and effort into it.
